VAT Rate Update
From 1 March 2021 the temporary Irish VAT rate of 21% is being changed back to 23%.
VetSCOPE has a quick and easy solution for updating all your impacted prices in a few simple steps:
Just before you start your March invoicing, download the VAT Change file. This is done differently depending on whether you use a main computer or a server:
If you use a main computer (No dedicated Server):
Before you begin this process, we strongly recommend you take a backup.
From your main computer, click on this link to download the “VAT Change 2021 IRL.fmp12“ file.
Once downloaded, move the file to your Applications folder, which is located in your VetSCOPE Back Ups folder.

If you use a VetSCOPE server:
From any computer on your network, click on this link to download the “VAT Change 2021 IRL.fmp12“ file.
Once the VAT Change file is downloaded:
Ensure all users quit out of VetSCOPE.
Click on the VAT Change file to open it. You may be required to enter in your VetSCOPE ID and password.
In the window that opens, click on the Update VAT button.

There will be an option to leave the 21% VAT rate on or off:
Leaving it On means you can still manually select it as a VAT rate when billing.
Leaving it Off means it will not be selectable when billing.
Whichever option you choose, it can always be changed at a later date.
Your prices will then be updated. There will be a message saying when it is complete. The Update VAT file will then close and VetSCOPE can be used as normal.
It is best practice to open a Cash Receipt and enter in a few items to ensure that the 23% rate is in place.
If you use the VetSCOPE App:
Once the prices have been updated in VetSCOPE: run a download from your App to update it with the new VAT rate.
Questions/ Concerns
What if I still have to enter in some invoices at the old rate. Can I still do this after running this update?
This can still be done. When running the update, choose the option to leave the 21% VAT rate on. You can then manually select the old rate when entering in the invoices.
Will this update overwrite my previous billing done at 21%?
No, previously entered invoices will remain the same.
When March arrives, it will probably be a few weeks before I actually start entering in billing from March - do I still need to run this update on March 1st?
No; you can run the VAT Change file whenever you are ready to start entering in March billing.
I use a server and the VAT Change file did not update my prices.
This means you just have a few extra steps to do:
1.) Get your server’s IP address; this is done by logging onto the server computer.
Once on the server:
If it is a Mac - click on System Preferences (gear icon) and then click on Network. The IP address will be located in the IPv4 address section.
If it is Windows - from the Start menu, type “cmd” into the search function. In the search results, click on cmd.exe. In the window that opens, type in “ipconfig” and press Enter on the keyboard. The IP address will be located in the IPv4 address section.
2.) Open the VAT Change file on any computer on your network. Click on the Settings button. In the small window that opens, type in the IP address of your server and then click on the Settings button again to close the window.

There will be a message saying that the file will need to quit and be reopened. Click on the Quit button. Once the file closes, open it again and then click on the Update VAT button. The file will then update your VAT rates and close when it is finished.
